Ash Handley injury latest with Leeds Rhinos star set for spell on sidelines

Leeds Rhinos will await scan results to determine the extent of the ankle injury picked up by Ash Handley. The speedster limped off during the first half of Friday's 26-0 victory over Wakefield Trinity.

Handley was in visible pain after sustaining the injury. After gingerly walking up the field, he attempted to run but was unable to keep up with the attacking line. After communicating with the trainer, he was eventually pulled from the action.

Rohan Smith admitted the Rhinos were uncertain about the severity of the injury due to the nature of the blow but confirmed he was likely to spend some time on the sidelines.

"It's an ankle, they're just assessing it," Smith said. "It doesn't seem like it's a real serious one but it might be one that costs him a few weeks. Sometimes it's hard to tell straight after. It can take 24 to 48 hours, that's usually the key there."

The Rhinos were unable to break down Wakefield in the first half, but five tries after the break saw them run out comfortable winners.

"I thought we defended well in the first half," Smith said. "We made some corrections to our attack at half time and I felt we looked in good condition all the way through the first half defending our own line. We didn't attack particularly well but defensively we were solid."

Asked what the corrections were, Smith said: "Just playing more direct and being a little more patient with it. It was pretty clear straight after half time where we asserted ourselves and put some nice plays on to finish off some opportunities."
