Asda worker's touching act of kindness restored shopper's 'faith in human beings'

A supermarket shopper in Trafford has had her 'faith in human beings' restored thanks to the kind gesture of one member of staff.

The woman was on her way to work when she stopped off at the Asda in Trafford Park.

But she didn't realise she'd left her bank card at home until she was at the checkout.

Ron, who has worked at the store for 16 years, then told her not to worry - and paid the £42 worth of shopping out of his own pocket.

Ana, the store's customer trading manager, said: "The lady was hurrying to work and when she got to our store at 6.15am she realised while on the self scan that she'd left her bank card at home.

"She told Ron what she'd done and asked if he could he put the shopping away until later that afternoon, saying she would go home after work and come back – about a 45-minute round trip.

"Ron knew the customer was a regular and told her not to worry about it and paid the £42 for her shopping himself.

"He was very happy to help out and said the customer could return at her convenience to pay him back, which she did later that day.

"The customer was utterly shocked by Ron's kind act."

Ron has now been nominated for an Asda service superstar award after the woman wrote to the store to thank Ron, saying that her 'faith in human beings had been restored'.

A spokesperson from Asda said: "Everyone at our Trafford Park store is so proud of their colleague Ron who paid for a regular customer's shopping out of his own pocket after she'd accidentally left her bank card at home."

Other customers have now been sharing their praise of Ron.

Michelle Jones said in a Facebook comment: "That's a gentleman that's Ron. A true gent and Asda Trafford Park are very lucky to have him."

And Karen Onodu added: "Ah I always see him when I pop in, he always looked such a lovely man, now I know for definite he is, well done Ron."

"Well done Ron, one of the lovely smiley staff I see there when shopping," Gill Hilton added.
