Asda closing two stores by the end of summer - full list of sites set to shut

Asda is set to close two of its Asda Living stores for good by the end of the summer, the supermarket giant has confirmed.

The Asda Living stores are different to their general supermarket sites as they sell a range of clothing, homeware and entertainment goods, kitchenware and furnishings and electronics rather than food.

The chains Wrexham site at Island Green Retail Park will be the first to close on Monday, July 31.

The second site to go will be the Asda Living store in Eastgate Retail Park, Bristol.

This site is also set to close this summer, but an exact date has not yet been confirmed.

The closures of the sites come after bosses admitted that they had been "running at a loss for a number of years".

Back in February of this year, the supermarket chain launched a consultation on the future of the Wrexham store.

The shop employs around 20 members of staff and Asda would be doing all that it could to find alternative roles for them in other local stores.

The spokesperson told the Mirror: “Despite the best efforts of our hard-working colleagues, our Asda Living store in Wrexham has been running at a loss for a number of years so unfortunately following a period of consultation we have decided to close the store.

"We recognise this will be a difficult time for colleagues at the store and we are in discussions with all of them to support them through this process, we will do all we can to find alternative roles in other local stores.”

According to Asda, the supermarket has 33 Asda Living stores across the UK.

The supermarket chain launched its Asda Living stores 20 years ago in 2023 - both the Wrexham and Bristol store were opened in 2008.

At the time of the closures, Asda is in the middle of launching its new smaller convenience store format called Asda Express.

Asda's plan is to open around 300 Asda Express stores by the end of 2026.

Most recently it opened the doors of its first-ever Asda Express forecourt store.

Speaking of the new forecourt site, an Asda spokesperson said: “This is a refresh of one of our owned Asda forecourts and it’s been brought in line with our Asda Express brand as it is a site that, given the residential location, has been identified as having the potential to serve customer’s convenience needs.

“We know the Asda Express brand resonates with consumers, so bringing this proposition to our forecourts is an exciting test and learn activity for us.”

The Mirror has contacted Asda for comment on the closures.
