In some stores, the cost of a pint of milk is soaring. As the cost of living continues to affect many people across the country, a necessity in many households is milk.
We went to see just how much a pint of milk costs in these major supermarkets and although many were reasonably priced, one tipped over £1.
In Sainsbury’s Local in Mapperley, a pint of full-fat or semi skimmed milk was found to be £1.05.
In ASDA and Aldi however, a pint of milk is 85p. In Lidl, a pint of full-fat and semi skimmed milk is the same price.
In Morrisons, a pint of milk was found to be 4p more at 89p. In a general statement on why prices are different in Sainsbury's large shops compared to its convenience stores, the supermarket giant said: "We're committed to offering competitive prices for our customers.
Whether in our supermarkets, online or in a local store, we aim to make our prices clear, fair and appealing to our customers. Different sizes of stores have very different operational requirements and running costs.
“Rents, for example, are often more expensive in our smaller stores due to their locations. It can also be more of a challenge to deliver products to our local stores.
“These, and other factors such as staffing, local rates and a focus on convenience products mean there are differences in price between our supermarkets and local stores."
