Asda store 'taped off' and shoppers told to leave after police called to 'incident'

Shoppers said they were told to leave an Asda supermarket after police were called to deal with an 'incident'.

Photos and videos on social media show that a large number of officers were called to the Asda on Milne Road in Chadderton, Oldham on Friday night. According to one eye witness, residents were seen running away from the store at one point following the incident which is said to have involved two men 'arguing among themselves' and 'jumping around' in a situation that got 'out of hand'.

The eyewitness, who was shopping at Asda, said the incident occurred just before 6pm on Friday (February 24) and police swarmed the area minutes later.

They told the M.E.N. that when officers arrived the store was taped off and customers were asked to stop shopping and return home.

Speaking to the M.E.N. they said: "It was very terrifying, it's the first time I witnessed it living in Oldham for over 40 years. I'm always shopping at Asda some times alone and at times with my young children."

Greater Manchester Police and Asda have been approached for comment.
