Asda shoppers issued urgent pasta recall due to undeclared allergens

Asda shoppers have been issued with an urgent warning after the supermarkets popular pasta product is said to have undeclared allergens.

According to Food Standards Agency (FSA) the product could cause an issue for those with an intolerance or allergy.

They state: "Asda is recalling Asda Italian Inspired Chicken and Bacon Pasta Bake because it contains mustard which is not mentioned on the label.

"This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard."

Because of this, the supermarket is recalling the above product with the company issuing a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

In addition to this, John West are now taking "precautionary action" of recalling John West Boneless Sardines in Sunflower Oil and John West Sardines in Olive Oil.

Taking to their website, they wrote that on July 21 of this year, John West started a recall of cans of John West Sardines in Olive Oil 120g and Boneless Sardines in Sunflower Oil 95g. These products are said to be sold through Morrisons, Waitrose, Tesco, Ocado, Amazon, EH Booth, James Hall, Century Park, Co-op and James Wilson stores with cans of this product purchased through other retailers said to remain unaffected.

In an explanation, they said: "Our routine testing has picked up a potential contamination of an extremely small number of cans of our Sardines in Olive Oil 120g and Boneless Sardines in Sunflower Oil 95g. We are undertaking extensive scientific testing to identify the cause of the potential contamination. We would like to stress that this recall is purely a precautionary measure.

"The safety of our products and the wellbeing of consumers is our highest priority. Therefore, whilst the potential risk to consumers is extremely low, we are recalling all cans from those batches as a precaution. None of John West’s other products are affected by this recall.

"The affected cans have a batch code of 109, 110, 111, 112 and 113 (found on the side of the can) in conjunction with a ‘best before’ date of December 2026. Cans carrying different batch codes or ‘best before’ dates are not affected by this issue."
