Asda recalls popular pasta dish due to allergy fears - shoppers told to return product

Asda has recalled its own-brand chicken and bacon pasta bake over fears it could cause allergic reactions.

The dish contains mustard which is not mentioned on the label.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard.

Asda has recalled both 400g and 800g packs with use by dates of 29 and 30 July, 2022.

No other use by dates are affected. The barcode for the 400g pack is 505717226358 and the 800g one is 2742248.

The pasta meal costs £2.75 for the 400g product, or £3.50 for 800g.

Asda has recalled 400g and 800g versions of this pasta bake (Asda)

If you’ve purchased one of the affected pasta bakes and you have an allergy to mustard, you’re advised to take it back to your nearest Asda for a refund.

You won’t need a receipt to get your money back.

In a statement on the Asda website, the supermarket said: “We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

“If you would like any further information please contact Asda Customer Relations – 0800 952 0101.”

Products can be recalled for lots of different reasons - for example, this could be down to possible contamination, misleading or incorrect labels and allergens.

When a supermarket product is recalled, you usually don’t need your receipt to get your money back.

But if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.

For all product recalls, you can check the Food Standards Agency and Chartered Trading Standards Institute websites.

You should also notice recall notices in stores if they've pulled a product from shelves.

Tinned sardines sold in major UK supermarkets were recalled this week because they could be unsafe to eat.

Food giant John West is recalling its 95g boneless sardines in sunflower oil and 120g normal sardines in olive oil over the health fears.

John West said certain tins may pose a "microbiological contamination risk".

Affected tins are sold in Morrisons, Waitrose, Tesco, Ocado, Amazon, EH Booth, James Hall, Century Park, Co-operative and James Wilson stores.

The company has not said what the exact risk is, but is recalling sardines with the batch codes 109, 110, 111, 112 and 113, best before December 2026.

A major recall was issued by chocolate maker Kinder earlier this year after fears its products were linked to an outbreak of salmonella.

Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
