Supermarket giant Asda has unveiled their first ever Scottish convenience store which is based in West Lothian.
The new Asda on the move store has opened in Livingston, and it has been described as one of the supermarket's largest convenience stores. The store features more than 2,500 branded products, including 140 lines from local suppliers.
It is Asda's 36th convenience store in the UK that is being run in partnership with independent retail EG Group, which is also owned by Asda's owners the Issa brothers. Asda and the EG Group entered into the convenience market earlier this year with a strategy to bring the supermarket's existing products to more convenient locations.
The Livingston store will operate in a fuel forecourt convenience store format and will feature Scotland's fourth ever Leon Self-service coffee kiosk, reports The Grocer.
Speaking of the new Livingston store, Asda's senior director for wholesale and convenience Georgina Cokill said: "The launch of our first Scottish Asda on the Move store is a milestone in our convenience journey, as we build on our strategy to bring essential Asda products to more convenient locations through our partnership with EG Group.
"Customers in Livingston can now benefit from our strengths in grocery retail alongside EG’s experience in creating a compelling convenience store offer that brings great-quality products and services together, to make it easier for customers to shop on the go."
Asda has said it plans to open up to 300 convenience stores across the UK to help them increase their presence in roadside and neighbourhood locations.
The supermarket chain has so far opened 36 convenience stores across the UK - including the Livingston store - as a means to make their products and services more accessible to shoppers looking to pick up groceries while filling up their car.
