Asda mocked for offering £28,163 an HOUR in advert for job stacking shelves

Asda have been mocked after advertising a "competitive salary" of £28,163 an hour for stacking shelves.

Job seekers' eyebrows will have been raised at the tempting offer where the successful candidate could have walked home with £58,579,040-a-year based on a standard 40 hour week.

But sadly it appears to have been a mistake.

The store assistant vacancy was posted on online job site Indeed on Wednesday.

The "competitive salary" for the part-time night shift work in Swansea blitzed the hourly rate of the average UK wage.

And other store assistant jobs are advertising similar bizarre wages - with £26,291 in Cheltenham and £22,880 an hour offered in Bristol.

But when applying for the job on the Asda website the wage changes dramatically to £13.54 an hour.

Customers have ridiculed the supermarket giant for the blunder.

One shopper joked: "They are really taking the increase in living wage seriously."

A second customer said: "That comes to about the same annually as a top F1 driver," while another wrote: "I think I could get by on that wage."

A further customer added: "Indeed is painful to post on but I'd take them up if it's a real offer."

Asda has been generous though by surprising 50,000 shoppers with a free Easter gift as a thank you.

Last week, customers shopping online with Asda were treated to a spring surprise.

As they went about their weekly shops, or picking up a few essentials, in their online orders, the supermarket giant has given out free bunches of tulips.

The customers were randomly selected to receive the treat just in time for the Easter weekend.

The tulips were dropped off by their delivery drivers with their orders and came with a note that said: "Just to say ... thanks a bunch for shopping with us. From Asda."

Of the 50,000 lucky shoppers, some took to social media to celebrate the surprise.

One user said “Thank you Asda for the lovely tulips. Most unexpected. They’ve made my day.”

Another said: “Today is a good day, bundle of flowers from @asda included in my shopping delivery.”

Commenting on the initiative, a spokesperson from Asda said: “Our customers are at the heart of everything we do here at Asda so we were pleased to be able to surprise and thank so many of our customers with a bunch of our spring flowers.

"It’s also brilliant to see how much they brightened up people’s day!”
