You can now buy completely meat-free vegan chicken nuggets and KFC-style popcorn chicken at ASDA.
The supermarket is selling both products, which are suitable for both vegans and vegetarians – as well as anyone else who wants a bite of them.
In place of chicken, the main ingredient in the food items is rehydrated textured soya protein, and both are low in saturated fat and good sources of fibre.
Both are also coated in breadcrumbs, cost £1.50 a bag and can be bought online or in store.
A bag of the meat-free nuggets is 320g and four of them – the recommended serving – contain 200 calories – about a tenth of an adult’s recommended daily calorie intake.
Whereas a pack of the meat-free popcorn chicken is 250g and the suggested serving per person – 5 pieces – also has about 200 calories.
Reviews of the nuggets on the ASDA website are mixed. One person described the product as “horrible” and another described them as “tasteless”.
However, another reviewer says that they are “definitely worth the price,” adding that they are as “really tasty”.
Reviews of the popcorn pieces are also mixed, with one person saying that they “went straight in the bin”, while another described them as “delicious”.
