Asda has launched a new scheme to match the prices of budget retailer Home Bargains. While Tesco and Sainsbury's both have their own Aldi Price Match, this is the first time that one of the main supermarkets has gone head-to-head with another popular bargain store.
It's good news for shoppers though as it means the prices of even more products will be lowered - with toiletries, household, pet, baby and health items among those included.
A few food items have also been matched too, including a four-pack of Heinz Beanz for £2.75.
Asda shoppers will be saved from making an extra trip to Home Bargains and can also get the price matched products delivered, something the budget store only offers for larger items or bulk buys.
It comes on the back of Asda's Dropped & Locked promotion, which was announced last month, with the retailer reducing the price of more than 100 products and locking them in place until the end of the year.
Asda says it intends to expand both its Dropped and Locked and Home Bargains offerings as the competition between retailers hots up.
A spokesman said: "The economic climate is incredibly tough for families right now and we know from our research at Asda that nine out of ten customers are worried about inflation.
"We want to do all we can to support customers during these tough times and last week announced a major new pricing campaign Dropped and Locked – lowering the prices on 100 popular food and drink lines and locking these prices in place until the end of the year.
"The Home Bargains price match gives customers the reassurance they will always be getting the best value at Asda and includes over 100 products on everyday branded items like Sure deodorant, Surf Washing Powder and Huggies."
The products and prices covered by price match are checked and updated weekly on the Asda website.
