Asda is to create 10,000 jobs over the next four years as part of its convenience store rollout as it opens 300 more Asda Express stores by the end of 2026.
Its first Asda Express opened last month in Sutton Coldfield, while its second site opened today in Tottenham Hale, London. Each store stocks around 3,000 products, including fresh, ambient and chilled groceries, as well as alcohol and products from the Asda premium Extra Special range, reports The Mirror.
Customers can also purchase hot and cold "food for now" options from Asda and partner brands including Leon. Uber Eats will be available in some stores as well, along with a "toyou" parcel collection and return service.
Mohsin Issa, Asda’s co-owner said: "A key part of our growth strategy is to provide customers with more opportunities to shop at Asda closer to where they live or work. With more than three quarters of the UK population visiting a convenience store in the last 12 months, the potential for growth in this market is significant.
"Our ambition is to become the convenience destination of choice by providing shoppers great value and a comprehensive and convenient range of products and services under one roof."
The new Asda Express stores are wholly owned and operated by Asda. They are separate from the Asda On the Move convenience sites, which are located on garage forecourts owned and operated by EG Group.
They are also separate from the 132 convenience stores that Asda is acquiring from the Co-op Group. This transaction is currently going through the Competition and Markets Authority review process.
