Asda extends Blue Light emergency service discount until new deadline

Many workers across the UK are set to get money off their shop at Asda, as the popular supermarket chain announces it is extending its 10 percent off deal to emergency service workers.

Those with a Blue Light card can currently get 10 percent off their shop, in a scheme that was due to end soon. But supermarket bosses have announced that the deal will be extended until the end of March next year.

In order to get the discount, shoppers must present their Blue Light card alongside their ID at the till. The scheme provides 10 percent off of everything from food and drink to George clothing and toys.

The Blue Light card is a nationally recognised scheme which offers discounts across many popular retailers in the UK, HullLive reports. The card is available to workers in the following industries:

  • NHS
  • Emergency services
  • Social care sector
  • Armed forces

Extending the discount, Asda said that it is continuing to "acknowledge the amazing work they do each day to keep everyone safe" by keeping the 10% discount until 31 March 2023. Asda co-owner, Mohsin Issa added: "We are delighted to have extended our partnership with the Blue Light Card into its third year until the end of March 2023.

"Our emergency services personnel do an incredible job and we’re happy to be able to continue this discount, along with our own Asda Rewards loyalty scheme and our everyday low prices, into the new year."

CEO at Blue Light Card, Tom Dalby said: "We’re incredibly proud of our partnership with ASDA and understand how much it means to our members, especially at this time of year."

"The exclusive 10% discount across food and soft drinks, George clothing and homeware, toys, gifts and optical helps to support families and individuals across the UK during what is a tough period for many and really highlights ASDA’s appreciation of NHS staff and other frontline workers."
