Asda confirms major change rolling out across all 581 food stores

Asda has announced a major change to its product range, which will be rolled out across all its stores by next month.

The retailer has confirmed it will stock its full Smart Price and Farm Stores ranges in all 581 food stores and online in a bid to provide customers on a budget with more value choices.

Supermarket giant Asda currently stocks 150 Smart Price and Farm Stores products in 300 stores and will introduce all 200 products in these value ranges to all food stores by March 1.

Asda has already taken steps to make its value ranges more accessible by increasing the number of products available online.

The supermarket has added 100 Smart Price and Farm Stores products to its website this week, increasing the total online range to 187 products. This will rise to 200 by the end of February.

The announcement follows extensive scrutiny over the rising costs of living facing a large proportion of UK households.

Famed food writer, author and anti-poverty campaigner Jack Monroe made headlines after detailing the inconsistent availability of cheap food, and the cost hikes those on a budget are currently facing. This led to discussions with a variety of supermarket bosses, as well as features on Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning, BBC News and more.

In addition to this, Jack called for more transparent reporting on the true cost of inflation, which has since seen the Office for National Statistics confirm it will do more to better reflect the impact of price increases on a range of incomes.

On January 30, Jack confirmed Asda had requested a meeting.

Asda has stated it's "taken on board" Jack's comments and is working towards making budget-friendly products universally available.

Meg Farren, Asda's chief customer officer, said: "We want to help our customers’ budgets stretch further and have taken on board the comments about the availability of our Smart Price range made by Jack Monroe.

"We are taking steps to put our full Smart Price and Farm Stores ranges in store and online to make these products as accessible as possible."
