Supermarket Asda is giving away an abundance of vegetables in certain stores following on from Christmas.
In a bid to prevent food waste, the leading shopping destination is giving away bags of veg at select stores - including at Felling in Gateshead.
The new scheme has been highlighted on social media by savvy shoppers, who have already made the most of the new initiative.

Birmingham Live reports that customers can get a whole range of veg such as carrots, broccoli, potatoes and more. A sign accompanying the veg says: "We love food, but hate waste - so please, help yourself.
"Be assured we are also donating surplus food at Christmas and year-round, and we're committed to giving over 1 million meals over the festive period to our local community."
Asda is yet to put out an official statement with regards to the offer, but people on social media have been spotting free vegetables across stores. @anthonyshock said: "Free vegetables at my local Asda in Felling. Get to it!"
Midlands stores have also been seeing fresh vegetables being given away in Derby and Leicester. @Sascha_Williams also said: "In case it’s useful- there's a shed load of veg going free at some local @asda stores this afternoon…"
The move comes after Aldi, Lidl and Sainsburys all launched schemes where bags of Christmas vegetables cost just 19p. Deals of this kind have become more popular this year in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis that has seen people spend a lot more money on their meals.
Supermarkets have also come under scrutiny in recent times for the amount of food they waste - with a lot of it going to landfill if it doesn't sell before its use-by date.
