The Arunachal Pradesh government has scrapped 44 hydropower deals with private developers who did not show interest in executing them.
The withdrawn projects, with a total installed capacity of 32,415 megawatts, would be handed over to the Central PSUs through fresh agreements, the State’s Deputy Prime Minister, Chowna Mein told journalists in Namsai on Sunday.

Mr. Mein holds the Power portfolio in the State.
The Arunachal Pradesh government had signed 153 deals with various CPSUs and independent power producers for hydropower projects, with a combined capacity of 46,943 MW.
“Many projects did not proceed beyond the allotment due to various reasons. We terminated the agreements for 44 such projects as the private developers did not show any interest to execute despite several notices served,” Mr. Mein said.
The terminated projects were offered to the CPSUs in view of their performance and reliability, he said.
Fresh agreements
Fresh agreements for nine of the 44 projects, with an installed capacity of 1,300 MW, have already been signed. The deals for the rest would be processed soon, Mr. Mein said.
For instance, the 120 MW Nafra and the 90 MW New Melling projects have been handed over to the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. while the 420 MW Amulin, 500 MW Emini and the 400 MW Mihundon projects have been entrusted to the Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd.
Mr. Mein said the Centre had prepared an indicative list of 29 projects that were analysed and evaluated by CPSUs such as the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation and Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Ltd.
