Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Arunachal Pradesh is ‘set’ to sweep the State Assembly elections as it has already bagged 33 seats, including 10 uncontested, and is leading in 12 others in the 60-member House, according to the poll panel on Sunday.

Prominent among the BJP winners are Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte from Changlang North, sitting Minister Wangki Lowang (Namsang), Wanglin Lowangdong (Borduria-Bogapani), Rode Bui (Dumporijo), Balo Raja (Palin), Chakat Aboh (Khonsa West), Tsering Lhamu (Lumla), Dr Mohesh Chai (Tezu), and Hayeng Mangfi from Chayangtajo constituency.

The Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party (NPP) also opened its account as its candidate Pesi Jilen won the Liromoba seat defeating BJP’s Nyamar Karbak with a margin of 1,698 votes.

Independent nominee Wanglam Sawin, who was denied a BJP ticket, retained the Khonsa (East) seat, defeating BJP's Kamrang Tesia with a margin of 2,216 votes. (with Agency inputs)
