The artist Shepard Fairey, known for his iconic 'Hope' poster during Barack Obama's 2008 campaign, has created a new artwork titled 'Forward' for Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential bid. The poster features Harris in shades of blue with red lipstick, wearing a pearl earring and necklace.
In a news release, Fairey stated that the words 'We are not going back' from Kamala Harris encapsulate the current moment, emphasizing the need to move forward. He endorsed Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, as the best chance to combat threats to democracy and create a better world.
Reflecting on his past work, Fairey expressed disappointment in Obama for compromising on certain issues post-election. He also refrained from creating artwork for Hillary Clinton in 2016, citing a lack of inspiration. Instead, he produced protest posters against Donald Trump, featuring marginalized groups.
While Fairey did not endorse Joe Biden in 2020, he collaborated with Greenpeace USA on a climate-focused poster urging Biden to fulfill his environmental promises. Titled 'Which Future Will You Deliver?,' the artwork depicted two contrasting scenarios of a world impacted by fossil fuels.
