Thai artist Kamin Lertchaiprasert documents his experiences with "pure perception" through a collection of paintings which are showcased during "Pure Perception? (Her)" at Atta Gallery until June 12.
The artist spent decades of his career pursuing an answer to the question -- how humans perceive an unadulterated reality -- through artistic practice. He found that reality is not physical appearances perceived by our sensory organs and there is also a limitation in encountering reality through emotion.
He has developed an approach which he calls "pure perception". It's considered a state of mind that contains loving-kindness, without expectation. For him, loving-kindness is intuition and intelligence that enable us to develop an unbiased understanding of problems at stake.
The exhibition is the second in the four-part "Pure Perception?" project initiated three years ago. It features 20 of 100 paintings that collect the moments he encountered reality through this state of mind.
Viewers will be taken into his intimate circle as the exhibition revives his inner experience and his interaction with colleagues, comrades, community, and family members. It also revolves around a consideration of environmental issues and Mother Earth.
Atta Gallery is on Warehouse 30, Charoen Krung 30, and opens Wednesday to Sunday from 1pm to 6.30pm.
