Arthur Melo 'targeted' by three Premier League clubs after Liverpool exit

Former Liverpool loanee Arthur Melo is reportedly courting interest from the Premier League despite his disappointing stint at Anfield.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Roberto De Zerbi's Brighton & Hove Albion have joined two other clubs in the English top-flight looking to sign the Juventus midfielder. Newcastle United and Aston Villa are the other outfits credited with interest in the 26-year-old.

Arthur arrived at Liverpool on the summer transfer deadline day last season after Jordan Henderson suffered an injury following the dramatic home win over the Magpies. However, his time on Merseyside was limited to just 13 minutes of football, which came in the Reds' defeat at Napoli in the Champions League.

Not helped by a lengthy injury, Arthur left Jurgen Klopp's side without making a Premier League appearance or even a cameo at Anfield. Now his future at Juventus is in doubt as the Turin side look to balance the books.

In the report from Mundo Deportivo, they claim that the Seagulls have sounded out the player's representatives, with a return to the Premier League not off the table. But the current stumbling block is his wages, after penning a deal with Juventus until 2025, which sees him earn a reported €18m (£15m) per year.

This summer, clubs from Saudi Arabia are targeting players from England and around Europe with lucrative moves to their Pro League. At the end of the season Karim Benzema followed Cristiano Ronaldo to the Middle East as he left Real Madrid for Al Ittihad and they have since been followed by Premier League duo N'Golo Kante. And it has been suggested that a move to the region for Arthur isn't off the table.

"As my contract with Liverpool comes to an end, I would like to thank everyone (coaches, players and staff) for all their support over the last season," the Brazilian said at the end of his temporary spell with the Reds.

"I want you to know that I will have an eternal gratitude to the club. The fans are undoubtedly one of the most incredible around the world. The emotion of a game at Anfield is really impressive.

"Finally, I would like to thank the entire community of Liverpool and the region for welcoming my family over the last few months. I will always have beautiful memories of the days I lived here. Good luck for the future!"
