Arteta fumes at Tindall, Trippier demand and Lascelles repeats trick - Moments you may have missed

Newcastle United and Arsenal both continued their fine unbeaten runs of late after playing out a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Eddie Howe's side frustrated their London opponents on a blustery night in the capital. Newcastle had few chances but defended well to stay third in the Premier League. Opposition manager Mikel Arteta was left fuming after his side were denied a penalty in the final minute of stoppage time.

Here are the moments you may have missed from the feisty Premier League encounter.

Arteta left fuming with Tindall

Mikel Arteta was left incensed in the closing stages as the ball struck Jacob Murphy's arm in Newcastle's penalty area. The Spaniard's rage only grew when both referee Andrew Madley and VAR deemed that Granit Xhaka's cross was too close to the Magpies winger, who had his arm in a natural position, to be deemed a foul.

Arteta and Howe clashed on the touchline, with the Newcastle boss showing his frustration at how his counterpart had acted after the incident. However, Arteta was already in a bad mood well before the ball struck Murphy's arm.

The Arsenal boss had spent most of the game, and all of the second-half, bemoaning Newcastle's apparent time-wasting. Arteta also took offence at Jason Tindall repeatedly leaving his technical area during the game.

Arteta was not happy that the Newcastle No 2 was in constant conversation with fourth official Jarred Gillet and made it clear with constant bickering throughout the 0-0 draw.

Trippier calms things down

Referee Madley certainly failed to keep the game under control in the opening 45 minutes as he awarded five yellow cards before the interval had even arrived.

Bruno Guimaraes, Callum Wilson, Eddie Nketiah, Martin Odegaard and Granit Xhaka all went into the referee's book in the space of 15 first-half minutes as the game threatened to boil over in the early stages.

As Odegaard picked up a booking for a petty foul on Guimaraes in the middle of the park, Newcastle earned a free-kick in a deep position. As Kieran Trippier picked the ball up to send it towards Aaron Ramsdale in the Gunners' goal, he tried to gain the attention of his players and pointed to his head, urging his co-stars to keep their cool as the game looked as though it was set to reaching boiling part.

Lascelles plays a part again

Jamaal Lascelles failed to make it off the bench at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday but wanted to do his bit from the sidelines in the closing stages. As Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey went to take a throw-in in the final seconds, Lascelles briefly halted his touchline warm-up to stop the Ghanian restarting play.

The Newcastle skipper picked up a yellow card for his antics, as well as a cheer from the travelling Geordie faithful tucked away at the opposite end of the ground.

Lascelles performed a similar trick in the closing minutes against Chelsea before the World Cup break. With his side winning 1-0 at St James' Park, the substitute took it upon himself to stop Graham Potter's side getting things going again. Two fine contributions from the central defender.

Kuol makes an appearance

Garang Kuol officially signed for Newcastle on New Year's Day and has wasted no time supporting his new side. After watching the win over Fulham from the away end of Craven Cottage, the Australian wonder kid took his seat alongside Dan Ashworth and Mehrdad Ghodoussi at the Emirates before the game.

Howe insists the plan is to loan the attacker out in the near future but for now he gets to enjoy his new team from the sidelines.
