Arteta believes Arsenal are in title race, Saka suffers injury

Virgil van Dijk

In a thrilling match on Sunday, Arsenal secured a 3-1 victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool at Emirates Stadium. The Gunners' manager, Mikel Arteta, expressed his belief that his team is firmly in the title race and vowed to learn from past experiences.

The game started with an explosive atmosphere, and it was Bukayo Saka who opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 14th minute. However, just before halftime, Liverpool's luck turned around with an own-goal from Arsenal's Gabriel, leveling the playing field.

The turning point came in the 67th minute when a comical mix-up between Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker gifted Gabriel Martinelli an opportunity to put Arsenal back in front. The Brazilian striker made no mistake, and the Gunners took the lead. Later, substitute Leandro Trossard added a third goal in stoppage time to seal the victory.

With this win, Arsenal now sits just two points behind Liverpool and has climbed above Manchester City into second place in the Premier League standings. Arteta expressed his satisfaction with his team's consistency throughout the season, stating, 'We've been really consistent all season, if not, you aren't where we are today.'

However, the Arsenal manager understands the importance of taking things one game at a time. Learning from last season, Arteta emphasized the crucial role of squad availability in their pursuit of success. 'Let's try to make that happen,' he said.

The game against Liverpool showcased an extraordinary performance from the Arsenal players and the passionate fans. Arteta hailed the atmosphere as 'the best I've seen all season' and applauded his team's effort. 'They put their heart and soul in every single ball. I cannot be any prouder because I know how hard it is to beat this team,' he added.

Although Saka suffered an injury and was forced to leave the field with just 11 minutes remaining, Arteta played down its severity. He also mentioned that Gabriel Jesus, who missed the game due to a fitness issue, would only be sidelined for a few days.

It is clear that Arsenal has made significant strides under Arteta's leadership. The team's performance against Liverpool demonstrated their determination and ability to compete with the best. As the Premier League title race heats up, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal can maintain their consistency and challenge for the top spot.
