Arsonists set wrong house on fire as brick thrown through window

An investigation has been launched after arsonists set the wrong house on fire.

Police and Merseyside fire and rescue service rushed to a home on Kingswood Avenue, Waterloo, after reports of a fire at around 9.30pm on Wednesday, January 18. A brick was allegedly thrown through the window of a property and the front door was set on fire.

Officers say no injuries were caused by the fire. Detectives are now appealing for more information, as they believe the incident was a case of "mistaken identity".

Detective Inspector Paul Gillies said: "We believe that this incident was a case of mistaken identity, and the occupants are being supported by officers as we look to find who was responsible. For someone to endanger lives in such a reckless way is absolutely despicable, and we are keen to hear from anyone who saw unfamiliar people acting suspiciously in the area around 9.30 last night.

"So if you live locally and have home CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices, please check these as any detail may be pivotal in our investigation, as well as any information to identify those involved. You can contact us @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 23000053805."
