Arsene Wenger sends Mohamed Salah message after 'important night' for Liverpool

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has explained why he thinks Mohamed Salah is back to his best for Liverpool.

Salah scored the opening goal in the Reds’ 2-0 win over Everton on Monday night. Cody Gakpo was also on the score sheet in the much-needed Premier League victory in the Merseyside derby.

The Egyptian had not scored in the top flight since Boxing Day prior to the win over Everton. The strike sees his goal tally go up to 18 in all competitions for the season.

After watching Salah’s performance against Everton, Wenger believes that Salah was more like his old self. The former Arsenal boss says the 30-year-old had not been at his best since the World Cup, but appeared to have regained his form on Monday night.

“Tonight, we again saw the Salah that wins challenges, changes pace, is present in the build-up of the game,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“After the World Cup, he looked like he had played in the World Cup because he couldn’t find his acceleration.

“Tonight was the first time I’ve seen him again as we know him – a world-class player, deadly in finishing.

“He still missed two or three chances, but he scored the opener. That will give him confidence. We’ll see now how he continues.

“Overall, it was an important night for Salah.”
