'Arsene Wenger has done it again' - Takuma Asano sends Arsenal fans crazy as Japan stun Germany

Japan international Takuma Asano was signed for Arsenal during Arsene Wenger's time as manager but never made an appearance.

Just 21 years old at the time, Asano was signed with a promising reputation but his career at the Emirates Stadium didn't exactly go to plan. Speaking about the signing after missing out on a move for Leicester star Jamie Vardy, Arsene Wenger said: "Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future."

The Japanese forward was not granted a work permit resulting in him heading to Germany to play for Hannover and Stuttgart on-loan. Three years after joining the Gunners, Asano left for Partizan Belgrade on a permanent deal and, now 28 years old, he is back in the Bundesliga with Bochum.

football.london takes a look at the best reactions on social media as Asano stuns Germany with his late goal.

@kapalekotakau tweeted: "Takuma Asano. Wenger must be proud."

Arsenal reporter for The Athletic @ArtdeRoche posted: "ASANO!! Arsene Wenger's done it again."

Japan have stunned Germany to come from 1-0 down, scoring twice in the second half to win 2-1 against Hansi Flick's side. Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu came on at half-time after starting the match as a substitute and has performed brilliantly in defence to keep the Germany attack out.

Ritsu Doan equalised for the Samurai Blue in the 75th minute before Asano scored a brilliant winning solo-goal to put Japan ahead in the 83rd minute. The 28-year-old's goal sent Arsenal fans wild on social media referencing back to when the Japan international was signed at the Emirates Stadium under Gunners legend Arsene Wenger.
