Arsenal World Cup latest as Saliba witnesses Mbappe show, Tomiyasu 'ready' and what Saka did

Day three of the 2022 World Cup is consigned to the history books and there was a chance to see another of Arsenal's 10 representatives in action.

football.london kept tabs on the Gunners stars' pre-tournament preparations last week and will continue to do so throughout their time in Qatar as manager Mikel Arteta will be hopeful his players return unscathed when the Premier League season resumes on Boxing Day.

If Monday brought about a lot of positivity from many Arsenal supporters on Twitter, Tuesday was the total opposite as one particular first-team player who has been nothing short of excellent this season was overlooked by his national team manager in favour of a Liverpool ace.

Of course, we are talking about William Saliba as he was among the substitutes for France's 4-1 win against Australia. Whilst he has to wait for his World Cup debut he did have a front-row seat for Kylian Mbappe's brilliant performance and Olivier Giroud scoring his 51st goal for Les Bleus - equalling Thierry Henry's record in the process.

Unsurprisingly after scoring twice against Iran for England on Monday, Bukayo Saka is still the talk of the town. From being compared to former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben and being praised by club teammate Granit Xhaka on social media, the 21-year-old enjoyed a bit of downtime by trading jokes with Jack Grealish on Instagram.

Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White were unused substitutes for the Three Lions so they were part of 13 players involved in yesterday's session along with Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson who did make an appearance off the bench, whilst Saka and the rest of the starters worked inside.

Matt Turner may have been denied a clean sheet by Gareth Bale on his World Cup debut, but the Gunners' reserve goalkeeper reflected on USA's 1-1 draw with Wales and is turning his attention to Friday's showdown with England: "Left it all out there," he wrote on Instagram. "We move."

Despite not featuring for Arsenal since limping off against FC Zurich on November 3, Takehiro Tomiyasu insists he is raring to go ahead of Japan's opening game against Germany and thinks his national side have enough to spring a surprise against the four-time World Cup winners.

"I am ready to play, I was injured three weeks ago, but I feel fine now and I am ready," the versatile defender said. "We have enough quality to beat them, of course we have to be confident, but we have to find the balance," the 24-year-old said at the Japan training base in Qatar.

"We have to be humble and realistic sometimes, but we are trying to beat them and we are ready to beat them. Germany is one of the most difficult opponents in the world, but anything can happen in football, and we will make it happen."

Thomas Partey trained with the Ghana squad ahead of their opener against Portugal on Thursday whilst Gabriel Martinelli, not Gabriel Jesus, has been tipped to have an impact at the World Cup: "What a player to bring on though," Peter Crouch told LADbible TV. "If you are tired, then bring on Martinelli. That could be a game-changer."
