Arsenal won’t sanction Marquinhos loan without winger signing amid Mykhaylo Mudryk chase

Arsenal are not planning to loan out youngster Marquinhos during the January transfer window until they have signed a new wide forward.

The Gunners have made adding a new winger their priority this month and their top target is Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Arsenal have made two bids for Mudryk, with the second valued at around £60million, but Shakhtar are holding out for closer to £85m following interest from Chelsea.

Mudryk’s arrival will impact any outgoings at Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta has already described his squad as “short”.

Marquinhos is one of those who could leave on loan, but there are no plans to sanction that unless a new forward is added.

The 19-year-old has made just one Premier League appearance this season and could benefit from first-team experience elsewhere.

He is still, however, proving a regular fixture in Arsenal squads as an option for Arteta off the bench if needed.

Arsenal are currently short on forward options as striker Gabriel Jesus is injured and Emile Smith Rowe is only just back in training.

Marquinhos is one of those hoping to start for Arsenal when they travel to Oxford in the FA Cup third round on Monday night.
