Arsenal Women fight back from 2-0 down in first leg of Champions League to draw at Wolfsburg

Arsenal have come back from being 2-0 down to achieve a draw in the first leg of their Women's Champions League semi-final at Wolfsburg.

The Gunners fought hard and are in a reasonable position going into their second leg where they will play at the Emirates in front of more than 40,000 fans.

Arsenal fell behind after 25 minutes as two goals from from Ewa Pajor and Sveindis Jane Jonsdottir gave Wolfsburg the lead at the Volkswagen Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Eidevall's side failed to take their chances in the first 20 minutes but huge mistakes at the back cost them for the second goal, but Rafaelle pulled the Gunners back into the game just on the 45 minute mark which gave them hope going into half time.

Stina Blackstenius pulled the Gunners level with 20 minutes to go after a lovely move saw Pelova played through and her low cross beats the Wolfsburg defence for Blackstenius to turn it home.

Hearts stopped in the opening ten minutes as Lia Walti went down injured and was forced to receive treatment, but thankfully she was up and back on the pitch after being taped up, while Katie McCabe also had treatment in the closing 10 minutes after taking a ball right to the face.

Arsenal saw their chances but it was the same performance as we'd seen before during the season where they just didn't capitalise on the opportunities and they let Wolfsburg back in during the final 15, but thankfully it ended 2-2 and Arsenal go into the second leg with more of a chance than the first 20 minutes of the game.

It was the first match for the Gunners without Leah Williamson who was forced off in the first half of Wednesday's 1-0 defeat against Man Utd - which was later confirmed as a ruptured ACL.

Williamson added to the growing list of injuries for Jonas Eidevall, who already has Beth Mead, Vivianne Miedema, Kim Little out long-term.

While Caitlin Foord and Lina Hurtig are also out injured, they could be back for the second leg when they welcome Wolfsburg.
