Marseille are keen to sign defender Nuno Tavares on loan and Arsenal will consider sanctioning his exit if they manage to recruit in that area, according to a report from The Athletic.
The Portugal youngster only joined the Gunners last season but the club are said to be open to the idea of allowing him to leave temporarily. However, they have to bring in further cover in his position before that can happen, with Ajax's Lisandro Martinez believed to be at the very top of their wish list.
Martinez, who sees his contract at The Johan Cruyff Arena expire in 2025, is said to be keen to pen a deal at the Emirates Stadium although reports claim that the Dutch giants have already rejected a €30million (£25.8m) bid from Edu.
Tavares made 28 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions following his £8million move from Benfica, but it was often clear that he lacked a little bit of defensive experience.

Atalanta are also said to be interested Tavares' services, but director Lee Congerton has admitted that the club may find it difficult to come to an agreement with Arsenal over a permanent deal, although whether they would be interested in a loan move remains unknown for now.
"I’ve followed Tavares since he was playing for Benfica’s youth team, he’s a strong player," he said. "But Tavares is under contract with Arsenal - and it’s really difficult to sign players from Premier League clubs."
Moving to Marseille may benefit Arsenal in the long run if Tavares gets regular game time and improves. Either way, the Gunners are in a strong position.
