Arsenal vs Tottenham winners and losers - Granit Xhaka shines as Emerson Royal sees red

Arsenal registered a memorable victory over North London neighbours Tottenham Hotspur as Mikel Artea's side ran out 3-1 winners at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners took the lead courtesy of Thomas Partey's wondergoal inside the opening 20 minutes, but just minutes later Harry Kane got his trademark derby day goal from the penalty spot after Gabriel Magalhaes fouled Richarlison. Honours were even at the interval, with both managers able to take some shoots of optimism from the display.

Yet the second-half saw the game swing entirely in Arsenal's favour, as goals from Gabriel Jesus and Granit Xhaka either side of Emerson Royal's foolish red-card ensured the Gunners would come away with all three points and resign Spurs to their first defeat of the season.

Mirror Football has analysed some winners and losers from Arsenal's stellar display against Spurs.

The midfielder has enjoyed a sensational start to the season and is reaping the rewards of having his role tweaked by Arteta.

Xhaka no longer wears the armband for the Gunners, but still shows signs of fantastic leadership every time he plays. The Switzerland international was often spotted gesturing to his teammates to remind them the need to stay focused to quell the threat posed by Spurs.

The 29-year-old was recently handed a new deputy-leadership role due to the level of respect he commands in the Gunners dressing room and his standing is only going to have increased after he scored his second goal of the season.

Xhaka's low left-footed drive put the result beyond any doubt to hand Arsenal the win.

Emerson Royal - Loser

The full-back's miserable time at Spurs hit a new low against Arsenal, as he underwhelmed for the 60 minutes he was on the pitch before his red-card.

It was a ridiculous decision from the Brazilian, who gave referee Anthony Taylor a decision to make after kicking the ankles of his fellow countryman Gabriel Martinelli while the score was 2-1 to Arsenal.

Conte looked like a man who knew the game was done as Emerson trudged down the tunnel and Spurs were subsequently punished by Xhaka's effort.

William Saliba - Winner

The young Frenchman's stock continues to rise after a near-faultless display during what was his first North London derby.

Saliba remarkably managed to win possession six times in the first half alone. Factoring in the level of attacker he was up against in the likes of Kane, Son and Richarlison - that is some feat.

The France international just exudes confidence which in turn sends a positive message to those around him. Arsenal's entire backline look to have improved as a result of Saliba's eagerly-anticipated integration into the side.

Son Heung-Min - Loser

Bar a hat-trick against a dismal Leicester City side, Son has had a slow start to the new season and that trend continued at the Emirates.

The South Korean was a passenger for so much of the contest, failing to really trouble the Gunners' backline at any stage of the game. This tie ensured Son has now played seven games for Spurs this season in which he has not found the back of the net.

Ben White has thrived at right-back this term, but ultimately it is not the England international's natural position. Despite this, Son seemed cautious to have a proper run at the defender and was hauled off by Conte before the full-time whistle as a result.

Gabriel Jesus - Winner

Much like Saliba, this clash marked Jesus' first North London derby. However, unlike the Frenchman, Jesus has actually played against Spurs many times before while at Manchester City.

In truth, the Brazilian hasn't had much joy with one goal against his new rival in 10 attempts before today. However, he ensured his fantastic Arsenal start continued with a goal against their most-hated opposition.

Jesus was on hand to capitalise on poor handling from Hugo Lloris to bundle the ball home and gift Arsenal their second of the afternoon.
