Arsenal vs Everton fixture change hands Mikel Arteta triple title incentive to hurt Man City

Arsenal have had their Premier League fixture with Everton rescheduled after the original meeting in September was postponed. Due to the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Premier League cancelled all fixtures in order to pay respects to her passing.

The game with Everton will now take place on Wednesday, March 1 at 7:45pm. With Arsenal eliminated from the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester City, the Gunners had a spare slot in their calendar which the authorities have deemed the perfect point to insert this game.

Mikel Arteta of course has just come away from a defeat at Goodison park. Sean Dyche’s first game in charge saw the Toffees win 1-0 after frustrating the Gunners for much of the game and working their weaknesses perfectly.

Arteta and his squad will now be able to take revenge quickly for the defeat and can use the game for several other benefits as well. With Manchester City in action in another competition, as they face Bristol City in the FA Cup, Arsenal will finally be able to draw level on games played with the potential of increasing their advantage at the top, should they remain league leaders by this point.

The fixture is sandwiched between two Premier League games, an away trip to Leicester City and a home clash against Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium. This means Arsenal will play three teams in the lower half of the league in a row.

This presents an obvious opportunity to build further momentum. Next week will see Arsenal play Man City in what is being billed rather predictably but accurately as the Gunners’ biggest game of their season and perhaps of the last decade.

Thankfully, the position Arsenal have put themselves in means that should they beat Brentford this weekend, no matter the result against the champions they’ll remain top of the league. That said, a defeat would be hugely detrimental to the team’s morale and belief whereas a win would drastically boost their mindset.

The Everton game though provides clarity to the Gunners. Having an unknown fixture on the schedule and not knowing where it might go makes planning far trickier.

With the information now known, Mikel Arteta can be far more prepared for the run-in. It remains a difficult one but the Spaniard has shown his side they can beat anyone in this league and will aim to recover from their Merseyside setback with this revenge clash firmly in their sights.
