Arsenal kicked off their pre-season tour of the USA with a penalty shootout victory over Bournemouth. The two sides were locked level at 1-1 after 90 minutes, but the Gunners held their nerve to win the shootout.
Karl Hein was the hero, saving two penalties, and the goalkeeper also impressed during the match. He made a fine save to deny Dominic Solanke and was only beaten by a deflected strike from Antoine Semenyo.
The Bournemouth winger’s goal came with around 20 minutes to go and before that, Arsenal had taken the lead through Fabio Vieira. The winger smashed home a volley at the back post after Reiss Nelson’s cross picked him out.
Mikel Arteta handed a number of young players the chance to shine at this friendly in Los Angeles and Ethan Nwaneri was the pick of the bunch. The 17-year-old did not look out of place and will hope to get more minutes this season.
