Arsenal urged to sell Eddie Nketiah and sign new striker due to Gabriel Jesus flaw

Darren Bent believes Arsenal should sell Eddie Nketiah and sign a new centre forward who provides a bigger goal threat than Gabriel Jesus.

Nketiah has struggled for game time since Jesus' return from injury in March and hasn't started a game since mid-February against Aston Villa. The Lewisham-born striker suffered a minor ankle issue in early March and has come off on the bench on five occasions in that time, including for the last 13 minutes against Brighton on Sunday.

Although Nketiah has impressed when he has had a consistent run in the side, his game time is dwindling with Leandro Trossard also preferred in the No.9 role. Nketiah could leave at the end of the season, with Brighton and Aston Villa amongst the teams linked with his signature.

Former England international Bent admitted that Arsenal should let Nketiah go - and sign a better striker. Bent told talkSPORT: "I think they will go again, if they can get two more players to add to the quality they have already got. They are short in centre-midfield and should sign Rice or Caicedo.

"They need another centre-half, and I think I'd even try and get another centre forward in. As good as Jesus is and he is fantastic, he doesn't score enough goals and spends a lot of his time outside of the box.

"They need someone in there who is going to score goals, will put their head in there. I know Arsenal play that way, but I would let Eddie go and try and get another one in."

Arsenal's title challenge took a humongous dent as the Gunners were beaten 3-0 by Brighton on Sunday. Julio Enciso, Denis Undav and Pervis Estupinan struck for the Seagulls in a rout at Emirates Stadium.

Speaking after the game, Arteta said: "What I have to accept first is what happened in that second half, digest it, individually I look at what we have to do very differently for the next match and after that until mathematically it’s over, the second position is secured, that’s not going to change. But we have to digest and that’s going to take a few days.

"At the moment it’s just frustration, the feeling that we gave the game away in the second half and we fought really hard to be the position that we are and today was a critical moment to keep hoping and keep digging for that dream and when you have to play in these moments you can not do what we did in the second half.

"Then we have to look if the team capable of doing that when it comes to the biggest stage, it’s a lot of things we have to analyse and think about because it can not happen."

Manchester City require one win from their remaining three matches to lift their third successive Premier League title. Pep Guardiola's side face Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford before the end of the campaign.
