Arsenal urged to make £114m summer transfer swoop as Mikel Arteta eyes midfield additions

William Gallas has urged his former side Arsenal to make a double transfer swoop worth £114million ahead of the summer transfer window. It comes as the Gunners begin to put their plans into place for the coming months, with plenty of players linked with a switch.

A midfielder appears to be towards the top of the shortlist for Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar this summer as football.london understands Declan Rice is Arsenal's priority as the England international nears the end of his contract at the London Stadium. That's despite landing Jorginho from Chelsea in the January window.

On previous transfer business, Arteta said: "What you plan and actually what you can do in this industry normally it doesn’t happen. So you have to adapt. The most important thing was the profile and the qualities that we bring to the squad makes us better and I have no doubt that we’ve done that.”"

The previous two transfer windows appear to have been a success, so there will be a challenge on hand for the side to replicate that if they can. While Rice is a top priority, that's not to say there aren't other midfielders also being eyed as Brighton duo Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister have also been linked.

Gallas claimed he would like to see both Brighton players join the Gunners, even if the fee is substantial. He told Genting Casino: "I don’t think £114m for Caicedo and Mac Allister is too much, it’s for two players.

"Next season Arsenal need to play in the Champions League, and will need to rotate the squad more. So I don’t think that is too much for those two. Mac Allister is a world champion too. Arsenal already have midfielders, but they have to compete in the Champions League and Premier League so I think it could be a good move."
