Arsenal urged to attempt sensational £63.5m Erling Haaland transfer following Aubameyang exit

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has urged his old side to complete a sensational swoop for Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland.

The Gunners are in need of a top-class striker following Pierre-Emerick Aubaemayng's move to Barcelona last week, with Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette also both into the final five months of their contracts with the club.

Mikel Arteta had identified Dusan Vlahovic as his chief target for the January transfer window but as football.london previously reported, the player preferred to stay in Serie A before sealing a move to Italian giants Juventus.

Now, Campbell has told technical director Edu to throw Arsenal's hat in the ring for an unlikely move for Haaland, who appears likely to leave Dortmund this summer given his much-publicised €75million (£63.5million) release clause that kicks in come the end of the current campaign.

“If you can get him, you get him,” the former Gunners frontman told the Highbury Squad. “100%. If you can get him, then you get the best players in the building that you can.

“If you had to break the bank to get Haaland and that hindered you in filling the squad. Do you do it?

“That’s what we really lack, isn’t it? We lack that striker who is going to bang 20-25 goals in, so if you can get that, then you get it. [Even] if it’s going to detriment (the squad).”

Haaland has netted a whopping 80 goals and 21 assists in just 79 games for the Bundesliga giants - an incredible record when you consider that he is still just 21-years-old.

However, a move for the Norwegian international seems highly unlikely for Arsenal as the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City are both keen to sign him, according to various reports.
