Arsenal transfer target Noa Lang makes honest Leeds United admission ahead of summer exit

Club Brugge forward Noa Lang has admitted that Leeds made three attempts to sign him in 2021, before most recently opening up about his desire to leave Belgium this summer. The 22-year-old has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal, opening the potential for revived interest from the Gunners.

Whether he joins will be largely dependent on the plans the club have for the upcoming transfer window. Mikel Arteta will be building his squad in the hope that they can go one further than last season, where they achieved fifth, and make a return to the Champions League.

The Spaniard managed to spend over £140million in reshaping his squad last summer, admitting that he will somehow have to do the same this time around: "We are going to have certain resources, not unlimited resources, some resources.

"And with our resources we have to play and do what we have to do in the best possible way. We don't know what the rest are going to have in terms of resources, which I'm assuming is going to be challenging because now it's not a top three or top four league. Now it is a top eight or 10 teams that are involved. That's why we have to find a way to do again what we did last summer."

Heading into the transfer window, which opens in just over one week, the manager will have to make the most out of what he can to help build the squad to compete like the last campaign, while also factoring in the addition of Europa League football. A striker is believed to be the priority for Arteta, while squad depth was also an issue felt towards the end.

One player that could be on the table is Lang, who has previously been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. The Netherlands international has impressed in Belgium with Club Brugge, racking up 24 goal contributions across all competitions, which includes the Champions League.

Amid such links, the forward, who can play anywhere across the front line, has admitted that he wishes to leave the club this summer. Speaking to HNL, via Football Oranje, he said: “Believe me: Belgium will miss me when I'm gone.

“I gave your football colour. Next season you will pray that there will be a Noa Lang walking around in Belgium, who can also play football so well.

"I knew who would laugh at the end. Will you see me again in Belgium? Certainly not. Only if it is to watch a Club Brugge match."

Should Arsenal revive such interest, they could be met by some challengers to his signature. AC Milan and Leeds United have been linked with moves too, with Lang previously admitting that the latter had made three previous offers to sign him.

"Leeds made three offers," Lang told HLN in 2021. "We even negotiated – they flew to the Netherlands."

It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will join the race to sign him once again, but he could be the flair needed in a much deeper squad for next season.
