Arsenal transfer target confirms interest in Emirates move amid Newcastle's Bernd Leno links

New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner has admitted that European clubs are interested in his services amid reports linking him to Arsenal.

According to The Guardian, the Gunners are interested in the American international and are in talks with the MLS side, having already agreed on personal terms with the player.

Speaking to TUDN, Turner said: “It is true that there is interest (from Europe).

“It all comes down to what is best for me. The World Cup is 10 months away, I want to make a smart decision. I feel good where I am now and how far I have come.

“But I would like to challenge myself one day.

“If you had told me at the end of 2020 about how 2021 was going to be for me, I probably wouldn’t have believed it. I think I gave my best in the opportunities I had.”

A move for Turner would likely spell the end of back-up goalkeeper Bernd Leno's Arsenal career and football.london understands that the talented shot-stopper wants to leave the Emirates Stadium before Monday's transfer deadline, with Newcastle United interested in bringing the German international on loan until the end of the current campaign.

Leno has less than 18 months left on his current deal with the north Londoners and the former Bayer Leverkusen star has already admitted that he is open to a new adventure away from Mikel Arteta's side.

“Not yet and at the moment it's not the time to speak about the future,” he said last April, as quoted by Goal.

“I know that I still have two years left on my contract and I'm also 29. For a goalkeeper, that's not too old. I've still got some years to go.

“I’m very happy at the club. I don't know what will come in the future, but I'm open to everything.

"Maybe for a new adventure or to stay at Arsenal. Like I said, I don't think about my future because two years is a long time. At the moment there are no conversations with the club or anything else.”
