Arsenal transfer round-up: Nketiah agrees new deal as Gunners work on Tielemans

Things are quickly beginning to heat up at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal get to work on completing all of their desired transfer business this summer ahead of another big season for the Gunners under Mikel Arteta, with two signings now officially confirmed.

Porto’s Fabio Vieira has joined Brazilian youngster Marquinhos in walking through the doors in north London, but the Gunners are still working on a deal for Youri Tielemans. Elsewhere, further good news has come in the form of Eddie Nketiah signing a new contract, after it was feared that he would be set to leave the club this summer.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer stories coming out of the Emirates Stadium…

Nketiah signs new contract

Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah had refused new terms at the club earlier this year as he went in search of more regular first team football and he was expected to depart this summer upon the expiry of his current deal at the end of the month.

But after Mikel Arteta showed his faith in the 23-year-old towards the end of the 2021-22 campaign, in which he scored five goals in the final seven fixtures, Nketiah has now signed under new terms to remain at the club until the summer of 2027, after reaching a verbal agreement earlier this week.

The news was broken by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, via the Daily Mail , who revealed that the deal was completed and sealed today, with an official announcement from the club expected in due course. Nketiah is expected to take the number 14 jersey.

Arsenal ‘still working’ on Tielemans deal

While one midfielder has already been captured this week in the form of Porto’s Fabio Vieira, the Gunners are still looking to bring in a second player for that position and have continued to work on a deal to sign Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans on a permanent transfer this summer.

And it has been revealed by Standard Sport that Vieira’s arrival will have no impact on Arsenal’s pursuit of Tielemans, as both parties remain keen on a deal to be completed in the near future, while the Belgian is keen for a departure from the King Power Stadium as he enters the final year of his contract.

However, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, 'Arsenal are still working on Youri Tielemans deal with Leicester waiting for an official proposal’. Nonetheless, a deal for the Belgian would make sense, given that he operates in a different role to Vieira.

Tavares attracting interest

Arsenal left back Nuno Tavares is expected to depart the club this summer just 12 months after arriving in north London, following a difficult debut season under Mikel Arteta in which he fell out of favour under the Spaniard after struggling to adapt to the Premier League.

It was initially thought that Tavares would leave on loan this summer, but the Gunners are not ruling out a permanent switch away should the right price be met. Serie A outfit Atalanta are interested in taking the former Benfica defender on loan, but Arsenal are reportedly demanding a £34 million ‘option to buy clause’ included in the deal, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

After signing for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million last July, Tavares made 28 appearances in all competitions during his first season at the Emirates Stadium, of which 22 came in the Premier League, as he struggled to dislodge Kieran Tierney at left back.
