Arsenal transfer round-up: Mikel Arteta set to snub £130m star amid Wilfried Zaha blow

Arsenal could miss out on a number of targets as they change their priority from signing a winger to a striker in the January transfer window.

As a result of a long-term injury to star striker Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Arteta is expected to bring in a replacement next month, meaning he will no longer prioritise signing the likes of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhaylo Mudryk. Elsewhere, long-term target Wilfried Zaha, who has shone for Crystal Palace this season, could look to move abroad rather than stay in the Premier League.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer stories coming out of Emirates Stadium…

Arteta to snub Mudryk signing

Arsenal could pull out of the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mudryk in January as they look to find a suitable replacement for Jesus in attack.

The Brazilian picked up a knee injury whilst on World Cup duty with Brazil this month and has since undergone surgery, meaning he will miss up to three months of action for the Gunners.

With Arteta keen to maintain Arsenal’s title charge this season, the Daily Telegraph has reported that the Spaniard will most likely snub Mudryk in January after being left with next to no choice but to prioritise a new No.9 next month.

Gunners receive Zaha blow

Crystal Palace forward and long-term Arsenal target Zaha has handed the Gunners a huge blow in any potential transfer by setting his sights on European football.

The Ivory Coast international is expected to leave Selhurst Park next year, whether that be in January or the summer, with Marseille said to be leading the race. Should Arsenal prioritise a new striker over a new winger, then all hopes of signing Zaha could begin to evaporate.

And in what is a fresh blow for Arteta’s side, 90min have reported that not only does Zaha want Champions League football, but he also wants the guarantee of playing regular first-team football wherever he goes next - something he may not be guaranteed at the Emirates.

Arsenal to go ‘all-in’ for midfielder

Whether Arsenal will prioritise a new striker in January or not, reports in Europe have also revealed that they Gunners are willing to go ‘all-in’ with a final attempt to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Serbian international was a target of Arsenal’s during the summer but the Rome-based outfit set such an astronomical price tag for the 27-year-old that no club came close to sealing a deal for him.

However, a fresh report from Corriere della Sera (via TuttoJuve ) states that although Lazio want to retain Milinkovic-Savic until at least the end of the season, Arsenal are ‘pressing on the player’ and would be ‘willing to try the “all-in” in January’ to secure a deal.
