Arsenal transfer round-up: Martinez requests Ajax exit as bid 'submitted' for winger

Arsenal’s summer transfer window has been highly impressive so far but things could still get even better for the Gunners as they target more incomings in time for the new season, with the club fully backing Mikel Arteta.

Top defensive target Lisandro Martinez has been the subject of a number of bids from the north Londoners, but it has now been revealed that the Argentine has ‘asked’ to leave the club this summer. Elsewhere, Arsenal have reportedly ‘submitted’ a bid for a 23-year-old winger.

Mirror Football brings you all the latest transfer stories coming out of the Emirates Stadium…

Martinez ‘asks’ to leave Ajax

Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez remains the centre of a bidding war between Arsenal and Manchester United this summer and amongst all the drama, it has now been revealed that the centre back has ‘asked’ to leave the Eredivisie champions as a result.

That’s according to talkSPORT, who say that Martinez now wants to leave Ajax this summer in order to secure a move to the Premier League, although United believe they lead the Gunners in the race for his signature.

Arsenal have already submitted three bids for the 24-year-old and are trying to do everything they can to sign him this summer, as Mikel Arteta goes about searching for reinforcements to his backline in order to continue his impressive transfer window so far.

Arsenal ‘submit’ bid for winger

Arsenal remain on the hunt for further attacking reinforcements this summer and the latest reports have suggested that the Gunners have ‘submitted’ a bid for an unknown transfer target, as they look to go under the radar to make their fifth signing of the summer.

Reporter and commentator Arlind Sadiku, via football.london, took to Twitter on Wednesday to reveal that the Gunners have submitted an official offer for Lille winger Edon Zhegrova, who only joined the Ligue 1 club in January from FC Basel for €7 million.

The 23-year-old registered six goals and seven assists across 28 games in all competitions for Basel and Lille last season, while he also has 28 caps for the Kosovo national team, who he scored for in their 2-0 victory over Cyprus last month.

Leno ‘close’ to exit

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno is on course to leave the club this summer after falling behind Aaron Ramsdale in the pecking order last season, while Matt Turner’s arrival has also ensured the Gunners have suitable back-up should he leave.

And according to West London Sport, Premier League new boys Fulham are closing in on a deal for the German international, with Arsenal willing to let him leave for a fee as he enters the final 12 months of his contract in north London.

Leno is keen for regular first team football in order to give him the best possible chance of being part of Germany’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year, which is unlikely to happen for him at Arsenal this season.
