Arsenal transfer news: Gunners told to sign striker who can emulate Harry Kane and solve Gabriel Jesus issue

Ivan Toney should be top of Arsenal’s wishlist ahead of the summer transfer market, according to Paul Merson.

The former Gunners midfielder has outlined why the Brentford striker can emulate Harry Kane’s style of play to add another route to goal that Arsenal currently lack through Gabriel Jesus.

“If I was Arsenal, I would take him,” he told Sky Sports.

“He suits them down to the ground. Sometimes, you cannot go long with Jesus, but you can go long with Toney. He is good in the air; he has got a very good brain. He can see a picture.

“He is not Harry Kane, but he can do a Harry Kane-type job where he can come off the centre-halves and he can pass through and he is tidy.”

Another player Arsenal have been linked with ahead of the summer window is Mason Mount.

Merson described his disbelief that Chelsea would consider selling the midfielder, who had fallen out of favour under old boss Graham Potter in an injury-hit season.

“For me, you’ve got to keep Mason Mount straight away,” he said.

“Mason Mount looks like he’s going be the one going and you’re like, ‘Wow!’.

“Alright, he hasn’t been great this season. He’s had an injury and he isn’t playing this season because of his injury. But he was one of their standout players last year. He was one of England’s best players.”
