Arsenal transfer news: Edu eyes new Mykhailo Mudryk alternative as Chelsea hold key to £84m deal

Here is your Arsenal transfer roundup on Thursday, January 19.

Fresh Mudryk alternative

After losing out on Mykhailo Mudryk to London rivals Chelsea, Mikel Arteta and Edu will surely be compiling a list of possible names they could sign in the January transfer window.

Barcelona star Raphinha appeared to be the priority target on that list but a deal seems too complicated to complete. Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby has also been suggested as an option, although the Gunners could be priced out of both deals with their clubs likely to use the hefty Mudryk sale as the benchmark.

However, the Gunners may have found an option who would come at a cheap price and likely be able to make an immediate impact. Eintracht Frankfurt winger Jesper Lindstrom is now of interest to Arsenal with the Dane catching the eye after scoring eight goals and grabbing two assists from 23 appearances so far this season.

Freelance journalist Steve Kay (@stevek9KS1TV on Twitter) has revealed that €20million (£17.5million) would enough for the German club to consider selling.

Chelsea could hold key to Diaby deal

Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen has been identified as a potential option for Arsenal in this window after they missed out on the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk.

According to German news outlet Bild, Newcastle are also considering a move to sign the winger in the January transfer window And Chelsea could player a major helping hand despite preventing the Gunners from signing their top target.

Interest from Newcastle comes amid Sky Germany’s reports that Diaby is a topic of interest at Arsenal. The 23-year-old Frenchman is still under contract with the Bundesliga side until 2025, so it could be an expensive deal, with the German side demanding €100million (£84million).

But, Arteta may avoid a repeat with Diaby, as 90min are reporting that Newcastle are also considering making a move for Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech this month. Therefore by Chelsea sanctioning the sale of Ziyech, the Gunners would likely have a free run at Diaby, with the Magpies unlikely to pursue deals for both.

Mitoma could be perfect Arteta winger

Brighton winger Kauro Mitoma has had a fantastic season after the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi, who has thrust the Japan international into the first team. He has been scoring regularly with three goals in his last five matches and looks set only to continue improving.

For Mikel Arteta, he loves players with intelligence and focus. Typically those who want to further themselves with extra work and a passion to improve themselves for the benefit of the team, something which Mitoma has shown in his early years.

Speaking to The Athletic, Mitoma explains his dedication to the practice of dribbling. In fact, that was the topic he decided to write his university thesis on and the results of which are evident every time he now steps onto the pitch, beats his man and opens up a scoring opportunity for himself or his teammates.
