Arsenal transfer news and rumours: Fresh Lisandro Martinez bid; Gabriel Jesus latest; Wilshere in return talks

Arsenal remain intent on asserting their authority in the summer transfer market after a couple of early moves.

Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira have joined Matt Turner in making the switch to north London, with Gabriel Jesus set to follow.

That announcement is expected today while the Gunners are also hunting down a new defender.

Ajax star Lisandro Martinez appears to be their top priority in that chase, if they can hold off Manchester United’s rival interest, while Jack Wilshere could be set for a return in the academy setup.

Here is your morning update of Arsenal transfer news and rumours...

Lisandro Martinez

After bids of £26million and £34m were knocked back by Ajax, Arsenal are returning with a third bid for the Argentine centre-back featuring higher add-ons.

The Sun detail demands of £43m before the Amsterdam giants will consider letting Martinez leave.

Manchester United have now registered their interest and Ajax reportedly want to wait to see if they will make a bid before judging Arsenal’s latest offer.

Arsenal could announce the signing of Gabriel Jesus today.

A medical has already been completed for the Manchester City man’s £45m arrival, and he was pictured embracing technical director Edu earlier this week ahead of sealing the deal.

Arsenal will showcase Jesus with his new No9 shirt when the confirmation is finally released.

Jack Wilshere

Arsenal have held talks with former player Wilshere over a return to the club, as revealed by Standard Sport’s Simon Collings.

The reunion would almost certainly lead to the 30-year-old hanging up his boots however, as he is among the candidates for the vacant Under-23 and Under-18 manager roles.

No decision has been made yet with the Gunners also considering internal candidates for promotions to the positions.
