Arsenal told why they can beat Man City to Premier League title amid Champions League claim

Arsenal have been told why they can beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners are currently leading the race by a single point after losing just one game so far this season, coming against Manchester United at Old Trafford in a 3-1 defeat. Mikel Arteta is now repaying the trust showed in him at the end of last season by leading his team to an incredible start to the new campaign, with Arsenal going strong both domestically and in Europe.

Summer signing Gabriel Jesus joined the Gunners from City in a £45million deal and has been a key addition in attack after registering 10 goal contributions in his opening 11 appearances, but football.london understands he is a doubt for the trip to Leeds on Sunday. City star Kevin De Bruyne has lauded Arteta for the work he has done at Arsenal and isn't surprised that the Gunners are challenging Pep Guardiola's side at the top of the table this season.

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has highlighted the key qualities Arsenal have that could see them beat Manchester City the Premier League title this season. Speaking on SkySports ahead of the Gunners' trip to Leeds on Sunday, Merson said: "I think it will be difficult but they're [Arsenal] playing well at the moment.

"The biggest compliment I can give Arsenal at the moment is that they go to Leeds tomorrow [Sunday] and I'll be shocked if they don't win. Over the years I'd have been like 'well I'm not sure, it wouldn't surprise me if they got beat'.

"Now you're giving credit where credit's due, this is a very, very good football team. It’s got everything. It’s got a bit of bite, it’s got power, it’s got pace.

"This is going to be a funny season, you know, we finish again next month. If Arsenal head into the World Cup break top of the league, we come back, when push comes to shove will Man City be looking more at the Champions League?"

Merson believes City could focus more on winning their first Champions League trophy rather than contend with Arsenal for the Premier League title in the second half of the season. The ex-Arsenal midfielder added: "If Man City are playing someone on a Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock but they've got Real Madrid away in the Champions League quarter-finals, is [Erling] Haaland playing?

"For me, you've got to stay on their coattails, there's no point playing if you're not going to dream. They're [Arsenal] doing well at the moment and if all of those players keep playing the way they are, they won't be a million miles away [from the Premier League title]."
