Arsenal told to complete £80m Mykhaylo Mudryk transfer over 'difficult' Christian Pulisic deal

Mikel Arteta is hoping to add a few new signings to his squad in the January transfer window. Sporting director Edu Gaspar will be hard at work along with Arsenal's scouts to identify which players they will pursue deals for in the new year.

football.london understands a central midfielder and winger are among the Gunners' priorities to strengthen in January. Two players that have cropped up as potential targets include Shakhtar Donetsk talent Mykhaylo Mudyrk and Chelsea's Christian Pulisic.

Mudryk has openly admitted that he would find it hard to "say no" to the north London outfit if they made a bid for him, but Shakhtar are said to have slapped an £80million price tag on the 21-year-old, who has been labelled the 'Ukrainian Neymar'. Pulisic has impressed for the USA at the World Cup in Qatar but his form at the Blues leaves questions marks around whether he would be a good fit at the Emirates Stadium.

Former Arsenal star Kevin Campbell was asked whether Pulisic would be a smart signing for the Gunners as he raised his doubts about the American winger's profile. Campbell told told the Highbury Squad : “It depends if he [Pulisic] fits their profile.

"I think he is a good player. You mention all the stuff he has done, but he wasn’t a starter at Chelsea. He was a bit-part player.

“I think he’s a really good player, don’t get me wrong, but he wasn’t the difference-maker at Chelsea in those games. He showed his qualities against England. I know England were poor, but I think the USA did really well and he showed that he can play at the highest level.

“With Mikel Arteta’s coaching, we might be able to get even more out of him. But, the bottom line is, does he fit their profile? That’s the big key.

"Mudryk fits the profile. Pulisic, it might be a difficult one to do because it’s Chelsea.”

Chelsea and Arsenal have proved they have been able to come to agreements over players in the past, but it may be best for the Gunners to avoid going after Pulisic. Mudryk is younger and whilst he may be an unknown quantity in the Premier League, he could prove to be the better player in the long-term under Arteta.
