Arsenal told Ruben Neves asking price as Aston Villa are open to talks for Douglas Luiz transfer

The January transfer window closes in just a couple of days and although Arsenal are yet to conclude any first-team signings of their own, the fast approaching deadline could bring about some interesting developments.

While a striker seems to be the long-term goal for the Gunners, it’s also widely reported that Mikel Arteta is hoping to bolster his midfield ranks this month.

The Spaniard has been light on numbers in the centre at times in recent weeks, occasionally relying on Martin Odegaard to play slightly deeper or making use of starlet Charlie Patino.

Despite the pair being facilitators for the time being, losing the likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan to AS Roma as well as the likes of Mohamed Elneny, who could leave once his contract expires in the summer, will still leave Arsenal somewhat short in depth.

It still seems as though the midfield is a target area for transfers for Arteta, so with that said, football.london takes a look at the latest headlines on the Gunners’ search for a midfielder.

Arthur Melo

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo this month, with a potential loan deal on the cards.

The Brazilian has somewhat struggled in Turin since his move from Barcelona, opening the potential for a move away.

However, despite talks opening over the transfer, talks have collapsed, according to Fabrizio Romano.

.

It means that the deal looks unlikely to go through, though things can change quickly in the final hours of the transfer window.

Ruben Neves

The Gunners have also been linked with Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, though they aren’t the only ones.

Top-four rivals Manchester United are also said to be interested in the Portugal international, hoping to add him to their squad.

Neves currently has two years left on his current deal, although The Sun reports that if Arteta does want to land him, then Wolves will only consider £40-45million to let him leave Molineux.

Douglas Luiz

A former Manchester City academy player, Luiz has impressed in his time at Aston Villa.

However, with his contract at Villa Park expiring in 2023, it looks like he could be free to leave the club.

The Athletic journalist Gregg Evans reports that Villa have changed their stance on the Brazilian and are willing to listen to offers before the deadline on Monday.

He also adds that Arsenal are interested but are yet to submit any formal offer or interest in the player.

Youri Tielemans

Leicester City midfielder Tielemans is another that is coming down to the last 18 months of his contract at the club, with reports claiming many clubs are interested in a move due to the dwindling deal.

And, according to Goal, Arsenal are one of those sides. They report that talks have been held with the Belgian’s agents over a potential move, though it is doubtful he will move in the remaining days of the transfer window.
