Arsenal are expected to return with an improved bid for Declan Rice, after having a second offer worth £90million rejected by West Ham.
The Gunners’ latest offer for the Hammers captain is understood to have been an initial £75m fee, plus £15m in add-ons.
West Ham are holding out for at least £100m. Arsenal are confident that Rice wants to join them, but West Ham are in no rush to sell the 22-year-old midfielder as they wait to see if Manchester City firm up their interest in him.
Rice is now on holiday after England duty, but Arsenal will continue talks with West Ham as they seek to agree a fee. Personal terms are not expected to be an issue.
Arsenal have made Rice their top summer transfer target. They are also working on deals to sign Chelsea forward Kai Havertz and Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.
Arsenal will make further additions to their squad if there are outgoings.
Thomas Partey could depart for the right price, but only if Arsenal can find a replacement.
