Arsenal to net transfer windfall as Mika Biereth agrees Monaco move

Arsenal are set to bank a seven-figure sum by Mika Biereth joining Monaco from Sturm Graz.

The Gunners sold Danish forward Biereth to Austrian side Sturm Graz last summer for £4million and inserted a sell-on clause into the deal.

Standard Sport understands that sell-on clause was significant and Arsenal are now set to benefit as Biereth closes in on a move to Monaco.

The French club have agreed to pay £10.8m up front for the striker, with a further £1.75m in add-ons, and he is now due to undergo a medical.

Arsenal have worked hard in recent years to include sell-on clauses in deals for academy graduates that have left the club.

The Gunners made £4m last summer after Omari Hutchinson left Chelsea for newly-promoted Ipswich as part of a deal worth £22m.

Arsenal also made £2m following former academy graduate Mark McGuinness’ move from Cardiff to Championship rivals Luton last August.

Biereth originally joined Sturm Graz on loan from Arsenal this time last year after spells with RKC Waalwijk and Motherwell and he impressed so much that they signed him permanently in the summer.

The Austrian side paid a club-record fee for the 21-year-old, who is the top scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga this season with 11 goals in 16 games.
