Arsenal are reportedly scheduled to meet Ajax next week as they look gain a lead over Manchester United in the race to sign Lisandro Martinez.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News , United have made a €43million (£37m) offer to sign the centre-back this summer. United have turned their attentions to the Argentina international, with Jurrien Timber seemingly staying put in Amsterdam.
United aren’t the only club interested in the 24-year-old. Arsenal have also been pursuing Martinez, and it’s likely the Gunners’ interest spurred United into making a move for him.

Arsenal, though, could be about to make their next move in the battle. The Athletic claim the north London club are set to meet with Ajax, having made him their defensive priority.
Both United and Arsenal are said to believe that Martinez is happy to join them, with personal terms not expected to be an issue. Ajax are said to want around €50m, and should they get what they want, it will be up to the defender to choose his preferred destination.
Elsewhere, United are claimed to be chasing the signature of Brazilian teenager Gabriel Veron. Erik ten Hag is said to have set his sights on a £10million deal for the 19-year-old, with the Dutchman intending to send him out on loan next season.
The Mirror suggest United scouts have been raving about Veron after seeing him in action. United are said to be aiming to sign young players with potential as they look to move forward under Ten Hag.
