Arsenal to discover Bukayo Saka injury status ahead of Europa League clash against FC Zurich

Arsenal will train today ahead of their final Europa League Group A fixture against FC Zurich.

But the big question is will Bukayo Saka be among the players involved in the session at London Colney? The winger is a doubt for Thursday night's game having limped off just before the half-hour mark in the Gunners' 5-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

With games against Chelsea, Brighton and Wolves to follow before the season goes on a six-week hiatus for the winter World Cup, the sight of the 21-year-old clearly struggling with a foot/ankle injury against Forest is hardly good news for Arsenal supporters or England manager Gareth Southgate.

However, Mikel Arteta has already moved to play down fears that the winger could miss the tournament in Qatar: "Hopefully not," the Spaniard replied when asked if Saka is a doubt for the World Cup. "It was a bad kick. Right from the beginning, he was limping, but I don't see any further than that.

"Let's see how he is in the next couple of days. I think both [foot or ankle]. He got kicked a few times and he wasn’t comfortable."

In a potential boost for Arsenal and England, our friends at the Mirror, reported that Saka was able to leave the Emirates Stadium on Sunday walking freely as well as being spotted in the players' lounge afterward could be an indication that he has not suffered a major blow.

In addition, the report claimed that the Gunners would continue assessing his fitness with the view to making a final judgment ahead of the final Europa League Group fixture against Zurich where Arteta's side must match PSV Eindhoven's result against FK Bodo/Glimt to avoid a knockout play-off round tie in the new year.

Keeping that in mind, it's likely that today's training session will provide a clear indication with regard to how serious Saka's injury is. If he takes part alongside the likes of William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard then it's safe to say he will be in contention to feature against Zurich.

If he's not involved then it may point toward him missing the Europa League decider and attention will immediately turn toward his availability for Sunday's trip to Stamford Bridge. In any case, Arteta should provide an update when he speaks to the media in the pre-match press conference after training.

October was a productive month for Saka as he scored four times and registered one assist in nine appearances across all competitions, but it remains to be seen what November has in store for the talented winger as he looks to shake off a foot/ankle injury.
